"Is there anyone know how to import the video from Canon 550D to Mac for editing and playback?"
The canon 550d has two video outputs using the USB adaptor, one is standard definition AV the other is HDMI. normally these would go to a TV set, but you can connect to a computer using either an AV or HDMI capture card, the capture card would come with software.
Now, Step by Step Importing the Canon 550d MOV Video to Mac
First, connect your camcorder to your computer.
Insert the USB plug on each end of the cable into the port on the back of the Canon 550 camcorder and any free port on the Mac.
PS: To assure the safety, make sure all the units are turned off before make any connections.
PS: When the USB cable is connected, turning on or off the camcorder or switching the VIDEO/MEMORY(DSC) mode on the camcorder causes malfunctions to the Mac.
Second, After connect successfully, power on the computer and wait for the “New hardware Detected” message to display.
PS: If the program does not launch automatically, double-click the name of the Canon 550d camera software on the computer
Third, Click the “File” tab, select “Open” and highlight the video files on the Canon 550d camcorder to download to the computer.
PS: Press and hold the “Control” key to highlight more than one file.
Finally: Click “Download Files” to copy the video files onto the computer’s hard drive.
PS: You would better name a new folder to save the footages.
PS: Do not disconnect the USB cable until notified of a successful transfer.
PS: Once the video is deleted from the Canon 550d , it cannot be retrieved.
Now, you have import the Canon 550d video to Mac, but if you want to import the Canon 550d MOV video to iTunes for sync Canon 550d movie to iPad2, iPhone 4s, iPod touch etc for playback, you will need to convert the Canon 550d MOV files to MP4 or M4V etc iTunes 10.5 supported formats with Canon 550d MOV converter for Mac or Canon video converter Mac on Mac os (10.5-10.7)
