iMovie Supported Formats

iMovie makes it easy to turn your home videos into your all-time favorite films. You’ll laugh. You’ll cry. You’ll watch them over and over again. And you’ll share them with everyone. With iMovie, every video you’ve ever recorded is right in front of you, ready to roll. Grab the popcorn and enjoy the show. Chances are you have a camcorder, a digital camera, or an iPhone — and maybe all three. That means one thing: You have a ton of great video. iMovie puts it all in one place and organizes it for you so your video is easy to browse and fun to watch. Just plug in your device, open iMovie, and start importing your video. It appears in your Event Library — the one place you’ll find everything you’ve ever recorded.
iMovie is meant by concept for imports from camcorders, so, it is not meant as an all-purpose, all-codecs editor. Camcorders actually do use dv, mp2 and AVCHD. The last two can only imported via a camcorder, not for instance via drag'n drop a file. iM09 also supports a few other codecs, the underlying QT engine can de-code on the fly, as h264, photojepg and a few others. Site note: 'mov' ist just a media container, no format - means, not all .mov are compatible with iMovie. 'mp4' is a bit confusing: aside ISO-proofed mpeg4, an mp4 can also contain divx encoded video - which is not supported by iMovie. Same with avi: this is an old Windows media container, no 'format' - could contain codecs, which are not supported. Import from camcorder - and you're on the safe site. have a look on Apple's website, about supported devices.
In this regard, if we want to edit all kinds of videos with iMovie such as to import AVI to iMovie we need to do some conversion.
To convert iMovie unaccepted videos, Doremisoft Video Converter (Video Converter for Mac) will absolutely help you a lot. For example, it can convert MOD to iMovie, or MP4 to iMovie with ultrafast speed and high quality.
Besides, it can also convert iMovie files to other file format, such as to Convert iMovie to AVI and more. You can Download it and have a try.
